Neglected and abused by his stepmother, Gloria, Pete is forced to live in the basement of his home during the week when his father travels for his job. At first, Pete doesn't realize that other children aren't treated this way, but when Gloria starts chasing and hitting him, his friends, Jenny and Calvin tell him that he needs to tell an adult.
