A wisp of steam, lighly dusted with ash, trickled upward from the northwest crater of Soufriere Hills. The volcano had officially awakened.
An old satellite tumbles back into the atmosphere, a piece of it striking a sailboat whose occupants, a young couple, are forced upon the volcanic wastes of Montserrat, a tiny island in the Lesser Antilles. Hiding on the island are four desperate men awaiting a visit by the Queen of England. Their purpose: to make sure she does not leave alive.
