As a quarter of a million spectators gather in Daytona Beach for the biggest stock car race of the season, fanatics backed by rogue elements of the Iranian government target the unsuspecting fans for annihilation.
Although this heinous plot is uncovered early, a change of plans by the terrorists - coupled with human failings by key people in the investigation, cause the authorities to miss some vital information.
The whole country reels in the aftermath of the attack as tens of thousands of people are killed or seriously injured. Then bad judgment by government officials set in motion a series of unintended consequences that plunges the country into circumstances not seen since the great depression.
America's enemies become emboldened while the U.S. President contemplates action. The United States is seen by many to be powerless and weak. Some fanatical world leaders try to take advantage of the country's plight-seriously underestimating the President's resolve to protect the American People.
